A young family with children was looking to create a welcoming space for gatherings and celebrations. We took their 1930’s Georgian home and added design elements with nods to southern charm. With the idea of creating a beautiful space that also addresses the functional needs of a family, we removed walls to create openness and room for multiple seating areas. We embraced the traditional elements of the house, while adding modern updates and a soft, neutral color palate. Aged-brass finishes and beautiful cremone bolt hardware on the pantry doors inspire an authentic vibe throughout the space. In the kitchen, which features a space for preparation and working, as well as a breakfast island for easy flow. The first floor seamlessly transitions between indoor and outdoor living. To optimize available space, we transformed the back hall into a mud room with custom built-in storage and seating. Upstairs, we adapted the layout to accommodate the master suite with a bedroom, bathroom and closet. The bathroom design is inspired by timeless materials, with Carrara marble, a mosaic inlay in the shower and a freestanding slipper tub. To tie the space together, we installed a grand new staircase rail in the middle of the home.
